16 May Another Major Investment in Africa from Orkun Group
Continuing its major projects across Africa, Orkun Group has signed a financing agreement in Dubai with Globespan for the construction of a $130 million stadium and hotel project in Zanzibar.
Orkun Group is rapidly expanding its overseas ventures. The company is preparing to build a 31,000-seat arena stadium and a 200-bed hotel in Zanzibar. Orkun Group Chairman of the Board, İlhan Karadeniz, announced that they have signed a financing agreement with Globespan today in Dubai for the $130 million project.
Operating in various sectors such as construction, tourism, aviation, infrastructure, and logistics, Orkun Group is behind many significant projects. “Our sectoral diversity enables us to have a strong global presence and to lead in many fields,” said Karadeniz, stating that the group employs a total of 4,500 people, 500 of whom are Turkish. A large portion of the company’s investments are in Africa. Karadeniz noted that they generate an annual revenue of $150 million in the African continent. “This success is largely due to the high-quality services we provide and the strategic investments we have made,” he added.
Africa’s Largest Poultry Integration Facility to be Completed
Highlighting key developments related to their domestic and international assets, Karadeniz said: “We are actively conducting projects in different regions such as Africa and Hungary. In Africa, we are involved in major infrastructure and superstructure projects including CAF/FIFA-approved stadiums and sports complexes, residential and hotel construction, and nearly 200 km of road construction. Additionally, our investment in Africa’s largest poultry farm will be completed in September and will begin operations with a monthly capacity of 1 million chickens. This will make it the largest integrated poultry facility on the continent. We also have ongoing hotel investments and construction projects in Hungary.”
Karadeniz stated that the construction division of Orkun Group operates a large fleet of heavy machinery used in infrastructure and superstructure projects. “Thanks to this machinery, we are engaging in negotiations to carry out construction projects, especially in Tanzania and other member countries of the East African Community. In the tourism sector, we already operate two hotels in Zanzibar. Additionally, we are managing the Amaan Sports Complex in Zanzibar, for which we also handled the construction, under a five-year operation agreement. In Hungary, we are operating a roadside hotel and a logistics center,” he added.
Seeking New Investment Opportunities in Different Countries
“For the future, we are focusing on strengthening and expanding our investments particularly in the construction, tourism, and agriculture sectors,” said Karadeniz. He noted that they are closely evaluating new opportunities in regions such as Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Madagascar, and Hungary. “As Orkun Group, we will continue to shape our investments with a focus on innovation, quality, and sustainable growth. With our future projects, we aim to achieve even greater success both regionally and globally,” he said.
We Have Temporarily Suspended Logistics Operations
Orkun Nakliyat, a subsidiary of Orkun Group, recently announced via social media that it had suspended its operations. Karadeniz addressed this issue by saying, “The decision to temporarily suspend Orkun Nakliyat’s operations stems from our rapid rise in the construction sector, especially in Africa, our investments in Hungary, and the sectoral challenges faced by exporters in Turkey. However, this does not mean we are shutting down Orkun Nakliyat — it is merely a temporary suspension.”
